We want history and the stories behind it to excite people. The different sites of the Berlin Wall Foundation invite visitors to discover contemporary history in its local and global dimensions. They allow for a differentiated examination of central themes such as borders and border regimes, flight and migration, the rule of law and human rights issues. Group-oriented programs lead to new insights, dialogue and the formation of opinions.

Our Goals

Present and Future

Through the Foundation's historical sites and collections, we are able to understand and negotiate political, social and cultural developments in new ways. The sites and preserved historical relics help us understand complex histories and to reflect on them through our current canon of values. They facilitate an appropriation of the historical legacy in the context of the present and the future.

Concepts and Creativity

In our educational work, it is our intention that participants acquire an active understanding of history. We want to initiate sustainable learning processes, spark enthusiasm for historical knowledge while also encouraging a critical examination of the past. We engage in a multi-perspective approach to history that takes into account different points of view, outlooks and experiences. We also develop innovative approaches that challenge creativity, imagination and empathy skills and also cultivate the ability to engage in rational thinking.

Responsibility

Through our central memorial and remembrance sites we bear responsibility: We act in the spirit of a diverse society and aim to break down social barriers and promote a peaceful, democratic coexistence. We are therefore committed to the cultural participation of disadvantaged social milieus and to promoting cooperation between different groups of people.
